What do holderness School students think?
Eager to hear what high school students knew about renewable energy and hydroelectricity in particular, I conducted a survey for Holderness School students. Below are the results:
What measures do you think our government should take moving forward to support the development of renewable energy?
-Financial support for projects and research. -Down with coal-fired power plants! -Solar Panels should be place on top of most large buildings, wind turbines should be placed on places with minimal trees or various forms of life. -Having more programs running to educate and help people get involved. More organizations. -Less subsidizing of big oil -- to send the message that their time is past. -The government should be more invested in nuclear energy as a part of our nations energy plan -They should make people buy for plastic bags at a grocery store. Also make water bottles tin instead. -Trying to make their governmental buildings to run on renewable energy -I think the government should cover the costs of solar panels for those who want to install them because I know it can be very expensive and having your costs covered would be an incentive!!I believe that renewable energy should be a priority for both research and actual use. I think that it is very important for humanity's future, and a necessity to remove fossil fuels from our everyday lifestyle. Our government could supply research funds for renewable energy sources, and utilize currently unusable space (a desert or tundra, etc...) for giant solar farms like the Ivanpah one in the Mojave Desert. -They should maybe supply businesses with things, such as solar panels, so there is a better energy saving rates around the U.S. Also it would make them look a lot better. -I think we should take advantage of the ocean so it doesn't affect as many people. Either make wind farms in the ocean or buoys that generate energy with the waves. -More incentives for small towns and individuals to go green. -In the past our government has devoted a lot of money to the auto industry, roadways, nuclear power, and oil. It's time to re-allocate that money to rail/trains, wind, solar, and hydro energy. |
-We need a president that can be more focused on the environment rather than so focused on social issues. We need a leader than is passionate about the environment and puts his/her foot down when it comes to people who are against it.More incentives for people/companies to develop renewable technology and use renewable technology.
-By cutting foreign energy supplies and doing more research on wave and tide turbines. -Maybe more support to those working towards programs and their efforts towards developing innovative renewable energy. -Educating the public about both the negative and positive effects that different sources of energy have so people dont just support something because it sounds cleaner -I wasn't happy when congress passed the pipeline a few years ago (?) b/c I think we need to drastically reduce our dependence on oil. More restrictions on cars - mandatory better mileage, tax on gas. oops, am not answering your question. Wind and solar are my choices but I'm not well informed. -Incentives for investments in renewable energy at the personal, local, state and national level. I'm from Canada, so Hydro electricity is commonplace...just a dozen miles up the St. Lawrence River is a huge dam that was built in 1956. |
